The Product Identification System has now been adopted by virtually all the oil companies and their distribution contractors as the most effective method of identifying each of the Grade Products by specific symbols and colours.The Grade Product Indicator has been developed to clearly display this information alongside the faucet valve of each tank compartment.
During filling of product at the terminal the unit is set to show the appropriate grade of fuel being carried in each tank compartment.
The Grade Product Indicator is, perhaps, the most important element in the Product Identification System as it helps prevent cross-overs and contaminations during filling/discharging operations.This mechanical device consists of a metal cylinder with a printed vinyl label applied which rotates inside an injection moulded plastic outer casing. The inner cylinder is locked into position via a stainless steel pin on the handle locating into a pre-drilled disc bolted to the outer casing. The information is protected by and can be viewed through a plexiglass flush fitted window in the outer casing of the unit.
The unit is manufactured in two sizes – large and compact, the larger of which (GPI/170) can have either grey or yellow outer casing and will accommodate 4, 8 or 10 position labels. The compact version (GPI/150) can display either 6 or 10 position labels and is supplied in a neutral grey colour. All the minor components are stainless steel and the unit comes complete with a nylon coated fixing bracket.
